At Silent Trails, we’re inviting our community to be part of our research study that goes beyond just measuring sound – it explores how we experience it.
When you participate in the Silent Trails community science project, you’ll be measuring sound levels using A-weighted decibels. This gives us objective data about the intensity of the sounds around you. But we’re also asking you to share your observations – what you hear, how it makes you feel, and what features of the environment stand out to you. These personal reflections provide valuable insights into how sound influences our experiences in natural environments.
By combining sound-level readings with personal observations, together we are building a richer understanding of soundscapes. Most studies often focus solely on the technical side of sound or the subjective experience, but rarely consider both aspects. We are addressing both in our research.
Your contributions help us explore how soundscapes affect people in different ways. This community-driven approach to research makes Silent Trails stand out. Together, we’re uncovering the subtle ways that natural sounds shape our experiences in parks and other outdoor spaces.
Join us in this exploration and help us discover how sound shapes our connection to nature by becoming a part of our community on Facebook.
